"It's all about location, location, and Location!"
Today we will explore how the location of the Jamestown and
Werowocomoco settlements influenced the lives and travel of the English
settlers and the Powhatan Indians in 1607.

- use Field Notes Page to take notes during independent research
- prepare to share your individual findings with the group
- access Thinglink and add one tag
- include a note that highlights the significance of location from your researcher's perspective
- add a link that reinforces your thoughts
- share individual findings
- co-construct remaining blanks on field notes page
- discuss significant findings, artifacts, or interpretation of events to include in final reports
- begin to outline plans for group presentation/final digital report
- assign individual tasks for group presentations and digital reports

Visit "Explore the Fort"- gives an archeologist's perspective on how the fort may have changed over time and well as how the settlers found life when they first arrived.

Study this painting that captures the first days of building the fort. Describe the different ways that the settlers are interacting with the environment. What potential natural resources did they find available when they landed? How do you think the Indians would feel about their arrival? What might you include in your exhibit form this painting?

- Study the actual location of each settlement within the Chesapeake Bay region
- Study the relative location of each settlement to the other settlement and its cultural impact
- Identify specific characteristics of the land and water that impacted why the settlers and the Powhatan settled where they did
- Identify essential events, maps, links, etc... that you might like to add as a geographer to final reports
- Prepare to discuss essential geographic elements with your team
Historian- Essential Questions:
- Study the actual location and relative location of each settlement within the Chesapeake Bay region
- Study early exploration of the areas nearby the settlement of Jamestown
- Identify important events, people, findings of early exploration in areas close to Jamestown
- Identify specific characteristics of the land and water the impacted why the settlers and the Powhatan settled where they did
- Identify essential events, maps, links, etc... that you might like to add as an historian to final project
- Prepare to discuss essential historic elements with your team
Sociologist- Essential Questions:
- Study the actual location and relative location of each settlement within the Chesapeake Bay region
- Study early exploration of the areas nearby the settlement of Jamestown
- Identify important events, people, findings of early exploration in areas close to Jamestown
- How did these important events shape the relationships made by these groups? Describe positive and negative relationships between these groups during 1607 and 1608. Describe how they impacted Virginia's history.
- Identify essential events, pictures, links, etc... that you might like to add to the exhibit as a sociologist to final project. Prepare to discuss during team discussion.
Archeologist- Essential Questions:
- Study the actual location and relative location of each settlement within the Chesapeake Bay region
- Study early exploration of the areas nearby the settlement of Jamestown
- Identify and describe important artifacts that were found that confirm these explorations in areas close to Jamestown.
- Identify essential pictures, links, etc...of artifacts that you might like to add to the exhibit as an archeologist. Provide specific examples of why they are significant to help persuade the team. Prepare to discuss during team discussion.
