America in 1607: Jamestown and Powhatan

While on this site-
Go to "Explore Jamestown" page and "Explore "Werowocomoco" again today but focus on different links than you did on Day 2.
Go to "what's cooking"- talks about fishing, cooking, and the economy.
Go to "open fire cooking"
Must go to "Surviving in the New World"- visit this section while you explore settlements- This discusses the economy- click on the videos to hear and see more.
Also go to “Virginia Indian Cooking Vessel”- Explore the vessel – sketch it on your notes page and describe why it is significant that it was found in the Jamestown fort?
Go under Interactions with Settlers and look at the artifacts in the “Copper Bead at Wero.” And "Pottery Rim sherd at Wero” sections- Explore these artifacts.
Geographer- Essential Questions:
- Compare and Contrast how the culture, economy, and form of government practiced by the English settlers and the Powhatan Indians affected the other group's daily lives?
- How did the physical features of the land, surrounding terrain, and ecosystem impact the economy and forms of government practiced by both groups?
- Which pieces of research gathered today do you feel should be included in the museum exhibit and why? Be sure to justify your answers with specific examples. Be prepared to share your answers later with the team.
Historian- Essential Questions:
- Compare and Contrast how the culture, economy, and form of government practiced by the English settlers and the Powhatan Indians affected the other group's daily lives?
- What significant events occurred in 1607 that affected the economy and government of both groups?
- Describe how some of these events may have had an affect on our lives today. Provide specific examples.
- Be prepared to discuss which of your findings today should be included in the museum exhibit you recommend.
Sociologist- Essential Questions:
- Compare and Contrast how the culture, economy, and form of government practiced by the English settlers and the Powhatan Indians affected the other group's daily lives?
- Which events describing the trading relationship between these groups examined today would be important to include in the exhibit? and Why? Justify your answer with specific examples. Prepare to discuss with team members later.
- How did the positive and negative interactions experience between these 2 groups affect the form of governments that each practiced?
Archeologist-Essential Questions:
- Compare and Contrast how the culture, economy, and form of government practiced by the English settlers and the Powhatan Indians affected the other group's daily lives?
- Research the artifacts included on these websites to discover the stories they tell
- Identify and describe at least one artifact from Jamestown and one artifact from Werowocomoco that you feel best represents each group's economy the best and therefore should be included in the exhibit. Justify why you believe this by providing specific examples.
- Be prepared to discuss with the group and later with the class.
